My Name--- My Identity...

People knew me by by chinese name...
Chen Wan Shi... (In han yu pin yin)
When my parents gave me this name, they took pains into researching for their meanings...
So let's not waste their efforts...

Special Report: Averii and her Name...

"Wan"
Many girls also have the "Wan" inside their names, like Wanli, Wanling, Wanhui, Wanjun blah blah...
My "Wan" is slightly more special than all of their "Wans"...
Cos my "Wan" has a "Nu", the word 'female' in chinese, as its side...
So my "Wan" literally means "gentle, gracious, tactful" or "beautiful, graceful, elegant"...

Now try using that to describe me...
.....
You can stop puking now...

Since I'm borned in the year of Tiger, a friend of my parents told thm that girls borned in that year will be very very fierce, very bad-tempered...
So he suggested putting the "Wan" inside my name to counter the effects...

See it's all Maths or Chemistry:
"Wan" = gentle, pH14
Tiger = fierce, pH1
So "Wan" + Tiger = pH7, normal, average...

Sad to say it doesn't works...

"Shi"
Why do people keep mispronoucing and misspelling my name as "sI"...
It's "sHi"!!!
"Si" "sI' "SI"... You all want to "Si" is it??
My "Shi" is very beautiful as well... Don't marred it...

My "Shi" means poetry, verse or poems...
It can also stands for "Shi Qing Hua Yi", which means "as beautiful as the landscape" or "so beautiful as though as it came out from a drawing or a poem"...

Pardon my translation... My chinese ain't good...
And by the way, that is how my dad explains to me, I didn't made it up...

See?! SEE?! My "Shi" is very very magnificent...
Just like its owner...
Heeheehee...

"Wan Shi"
Now add these two together, what will you get??

"A beautiful, gentle and gracious lady who is very well-verse in both art and poetry..."

I wished...
Can't say it is true for the first part of the sentence...
But for the second half... I'm trying my best to fulfill it... =)

Now, that's the Chinese part...
What about my Christain name??
I'm a christain, by birth, although I'm... Well... Not very devoted...

My parents did not give me a christain name because they are afraid that when I grow up, I may not like it...
So they let me choose instead...
Now I have more than 10 christain names which I've taken and rejected in the past...
Those includes Samatha, Sarah, Cythia, Jessica, Jessie, Anastacia, Viva, Vanessa and many others which I can't remember...
The longest ones are Jessie and Viva, but I gave it up when I realised so many storybook characters were named Jessie and many shops have Viva in their signboards...

So back in 2002, I undertook this mission...
To search for my Christain name...

I want a name with meaning too...
But I got sick of those typical girls names' meaning...
Of Noble Birth, Melody, Joy, Happy, Lovely, Beautiful, Flower, Gracious God...

Boring...

Back in those days, I'm really crazy over LOTR, still crazy now...
And I have always being interested in mythology creatures like elves, mermaids, nymphs etc...
So I went to babynamesworld.com and search for names with meanings related to elves, mermaids and the likes of such...
And it gave me a few selections...

Elvina: friend of elves
Sirena: Siren
Fay: fairy or elf
Tanya: fairy princess
Nixie: water sprite
Lorelei: siren

Hmmnn... Pretty tame...
All sounded so girlish... And kinda hard to pronounce...

Then I saw it...

Avery: Ruler of Elves

I Want It!!! I Want It!!!

Thus my name... Averii...
